Rachel Towl Leeling Schuricht

Services for Rachel Towl Leeling Schuricht, age 92, were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 30 in the Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk with Rev. Mark Lohr officiating. Burial followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. Schuricht, an early pioneer of Wyoming, had lived in the state for 72 years. She died Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Pioneer Manor in Gillette. She was born at Deadwood, S.D., on Dec. 10, 1897. She lived there and in Lead, S.D., where she received her early education. She attended Chadron Teacher's College in Chadron, Nebr. After graduation, she taught at Glenn, Nebr., where she also served as a postmistress.

She married Joseph Leeling on Jan. 6, 1919, in Lusk. They lived in the Kirtley community for eight years, moving to the Hat Creek area in 1928. They later moved to Manville where the family grew up. She later lived in Douglas and Gillette.

Mr. Leeling died March 17, 1951. She later married Earnst (Ernest) C. Schuricht on Oct. 14, 1959. He preceded her in death in 1961.

Mrs. Schuricht was a member of the Methodist Church in Deadwood, a charter member of the Lusk Church of Christ, a charter member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge of Manville, and a Gold Star Mother in Lusk.

Survivors include: two sons; Samuel Allen Leeling of Douglas, Wyo., and James B. Leeling of Basalt, Colo., six daughters; Eileen A. Allsup of Lusk, Bernita B. Kiever of Fort Collins, Colo., Frances J. Dickau and Alice A. Vollman both of Douglas, Wyo., Vera M. Strachan of Mitchell, Nebr., and Virginia M. Linneman of Gillette; 25 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
