Marvin Skillings, 69, Dies Friday

Marvin B. Skillings, 69, of Gering, Neb, formerly of Lance Creek, died Friday Aug. 7 at Riverton, Wyo. Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Mortuary in Lusk Tuesday afternoon at 2:00. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery. The Rev. Thomas Jacobsen, vacancy pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church from Crawford officiated. Nancy Nagel, soloist, sang "The Old Rugged Cross", accompanied by Mrs. A. F. DeCastro, organist.

Casket bearers were Linden Nelson, Orval Hoyt, Harry Brown, Ted Pennington, Wilbur Wright and Sven Johnson.

He was born in Geddes, S. D., Feb. 14, 1901, to Irvin R. and Jennie Wolfe Skillings. When a small boy the family moved to Wyoming and homesteaded south of Van Tassell where he grew into manhood and attended schools in that community.

As a young man he worked as a mechanic in a garage in Keeline, Wyo. On November 25, 1920, he married Katherine Amend at her home in Keeline. In 1922 they moved to Lance Creek where he was a mechanic for Marathon Oil Co. and retired in 1963. He continued to live in Lance Creek until the death of his wife in January 1965. Since then he made his home with a niece, Dorothy Riley in Gering.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church.

His wife and two brothers died previously.

Survivors include one brother, Charles L. Skillings of Corvallis, Ore., two sisters, Mrs. Florence Meeker, Newburg, Ore., and Mrs. Fern Penrod of Victor, Mont.

Marvin Skillings Long-time Resident Dies in Riverton

The many friends of Marvin Skillings were saddened to learn of his death at the Riverton hospital last Friday. Funeral services were conducted in Lusk Tuesday. Mr. Skillings was born on February 14, 1901, and went to work for the Marathon (Ohio) Oil Company in May of 1922 here at Lance Creek where he was employed until his retirement in December of 1962. He and his wife Katie continued to live here until she died in 1965. Since that time he has made his home most of the time with Hank Amend, his brother-in-law.

Deepest sympathy is extended to his family.
