Mr. and Mrs. Kettler Killed in Iowa Accident

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kettler, long time Manville residents, were killed in a head-on collision near Traynor, Iowa about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, Also killed was Harry Horn, 70, a cousin of Mrs. Kettler. Mr. Horn was the driver.

Seconds after the car in which the Kettlers were riding and the stock truck collided, a gasoline transport crashed into the wreckage. Driver of the truck, Ray Cameron was not believed to be seriously injured but was taken to a Council Bluffs hospital. The driver of the transport was not injured.

The impact of the collision was so great that the truck climbed on top of the car. The left front wheel of the truck was sheared off and rolled 150 feet beyond the pile of wreckage.

Funeral services were held at the Peet Mortuary Monday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. David Becknell of the Manville community Alliance Church officiating.

Mrs. Floyd Alexander and Mrs. Beryl Fullerton sang "In The Garden" and "Beyond The Sunset." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Kettler were: Coye Jennewein, Wm. Welch, Floyd Alexander, Oscar Alexander, Floyd Tschacher, and Edwin Tschacher.

Pall bearers for Mrs. Kettler were: Marvin Skillings, Tim Haley, Eddie Plumb, Claude Redding, Neil Grant and Melvin Shepherd.

Honorary pall bearers were: Art Joss, Bud Cantwell, Jim Allsup, C. B. Dawson, Frank Blankenship, Floyd McCleerey, D. A. Shoopman, Marion Rasmussen, Lee Stoddard, Geo. Mundschenk, Fred Krei, Alvin Alexander, Barney Stallman, Dave Bryant, Bill Poff, Lee Welch, Ray Tibbets, Otto Bible, C. E. Marvin, E. C. Schuricht, Glen Wilson, Buck Culver, Lafe Culver, Barney Miller, Greg Kuhn, Dr. Walter E. Reckling, Frank Barrett, Glen Riley, Bill Magoon, M. S. Jordan, Fred Sheaman, Ted Lohr, Everett Brooks, Pete McBirney, Bill Hinrichsen, Walter Van Horn, Dale Crane, Bill Kruse, Fred Hansen, Herman Leeling, George Gibson, Berry Basket, Ray Reed, and Orville Dryer.

Burial was in the Manville Cemetery. Graveside services for Mr. Kettler were in charge of the American Legion.

Frederick William Kettler was born August 21, 1888 at Waco, Texas. At the age of 15 he moved with his parents to Tuttle, Okla. while it was still Indian Territory. At 18 he went to Oregon and then joined his parents in Colorado. In 1916 Mr. Kettler came to Manville where he engaged in the trucking business. He served with the Army during World War I. After the war he returned to Manville where he and Frankie Grammar were married June 27, 1921.

Frankie Grammar was born in Hastings, Ia. August 4, 1901. The family moved to Carns, Nebr. in 1908 and then to Keeline in 1919.

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kettler, three daughters Ferne Dieleman, Longmont, Colo., Ila Johnson, Manville; Joye Cannon, Powell; two sons, Jack of Omaha and Freddie of Manville. All survive. Nine grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Kettler is survived by two brothers, Tate of Loveland, Colo. and Charles of Tuttle, Okla. Also two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Ankeney, Upton and Mrs. Martha McDonald, Lyman, Nebr.

Mrs. Kettler is survived by five sisters, one a twin, Georgia Lee, Manville; Ina Morse, Emmerson, Ia.; Faye Whitaker, Kremmling, Colo.; Laura Lee, Lusk and Minola Miller, Keeline. Also two brothers, Charles Grammar, Everette, Wash. and Ray Grammar, Powell.
