Funeral Service for Mrs. Earle Hales Friday

Mrs. Earle (Addie F.) Hales, 78 died March 24, at St. Mary's Hospital in Scottsbluff. Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Mortuary Friday afternoon at 1:30 with the Rev. Robert Boutwell officiating. Burial was in the Crawford, Neb. Cemetery.

Mrs. J. P. Watson, organist, accompanied Mrs. Barie Lee Rumney as she sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were grandsons, Ronald Thayer, Gary Thayer, Mike Hales, Travis Lenz, Phillip James and Stanley Martin.

She was born July 4, 1892, near Glen, in Sioux County Nebraska, to Gertrude and Albro Hodge. She grew to womanhood and attended schools in Glen and Crawford.

On July 16, 1912, she married Chauncey M. Wolff at Crawford. They were the parents of one son and two daughters. Their early years were spent on a farm near Crawford. In 1916 they homesteaded in the Whitman community in the eastern part of Niobrara County. Here they resided until they moved to Lusk in 1937 due to the failing health of Mr. Wolff who died in 1941. She continued to maintain her home in Lusk, but spent a large share of her time in Santa Barbara, Calif., caring for her mother.

She married Earle H. Hales at Chadron, Neb., July 21, 1954, and they have made their home in Lusk.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Union Veterans, the Fancy Farmers Garden Club and was affiliated with the Congregational Church.

Survivors include her widower, Earle of the family home; a brother, Russell Hodge, Crawford; two daughters, Mrs. Herman (Inez) Thayer, Lusk; Mrs. Charles (Mabel) Thayer, Harrison, Neb.; one stepson, Ernest Hales, Lusk; three step-daughters, Mrs. Ed (Ida) Doane, Casper; Mrs. Hugo (Martha) Lenz, Wheatland; and Mrs. Lee (Mary) James, Lusk; 24 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial to Niobrara County Memorial Hospital Heart fund has been established.
