Hedwich E. Heins

Services for Hedwich E. Heins, 93, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 16, at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Reverend Marvin Temme officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. Memorial gifts to the church would be appreciated by the family. Mrs. Heins died at Goshen Care Center on October 12, 1997.

She was born in Sioux City, Iowa, November 6, 1903, the daughter of Fredrick W. and Caroline (Iwanich) Miller. She was baptized August 18, 1904 in the Lutheran church by Pastor R. H. Beer. The family moved to Stuart, Nebraska in 1912 and then to Wyoming in 1914 where they homesteaded 14 miles southwest of Keeline. She attended schools in Iowa, Nebraska and Wyoming. On September 22, 1921 she married Leo C. Heins and they lived on the Heins' homestead 3 miles southwest of Keeline, until their retirement in 1964, when they moved to Torrington. Leo died in 1983.

She was very active in her church, teaching Sunday School for 32 years and enjoyed her SOS Bible study class. In Keeline she was a member of the 5280 Extension Club and in Torrington she belonged to the Rex Young Rock Club. Hedwich loved her dolls and collectibles. She was an avid gardener and a gracious hostess whose home was always open for a meal or a cup of coffee.

Survivors include three children and their spouses, Alma and Clarence Gaukel of Denver, Colorado, Allen and Joann Heins of Keeline and Wilma and Ed Baldwin of Torrington; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; sister Hulda Mahnke of Casper, Wyoming, sister-in-law Helen Miller of Las Vegas, Nevada and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, a step-grandson, her parents and four brothers.
