Robert C. Templeton, 97, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at Fountain Springs Healthcare. He was born Jan. 16, 1915, in Roll, Ind., to Harmon J. and Opal (Smith) Templeton. When Robert was two years old, the family moved to Wyoming where they lived in Grass Creek, Lance Creek, and Lusk. Robert graduated from Lusk High School in 1932. He attended Missouri Military Academy in 1933 and graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1937 with a Bachelor Degree. While at UW, he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega and active in intramural wrestling, baseball and varsity wrestling.

Robert married Josephine Kinkade on May 1, 1938, in Cheyenne, Wyo. They had three children. Robert managed his parents' grocery stores in Lance Creek and Lusk from 1937 to 1945. He then managed a Firestone store for 13 years and was acting Postmaster for two years. In 1960 he began a 36-year career at Lusk State Bank where he served as president and chairman of the board. He was also president of the Northeast Bankers Association.

Robert was very involved in a number of civic organizations. He was a past master of Harmony Lodge AF&M; Associate Guardian of Jobs Daughters, chairman of the Board of Trustees and member of Congregational Church; president of the Lions Club and the Junior Chamber of Commerce; director of the Niobrara Country Club; member of the University of Wyoming Alumni Board of Directors, and served on the Boy Scout Council.

Survivors include his children, Jo Ann Bigner (Fred), Corona, Calif., Lana Henman (Fred), Las Cruces, N.M., and Thomas R. Templeton (Cheryl), Sturgis; grandchildren: Cynthia Meka, Sanford, Maine, Lisa Jette (Tim), Laramie, Wyo., Justin Day, Brunswick, Maine, Kiffany Whitten, Corona, Gregory Whitten (Melissa), Fort Collins, Colo., Adam Templeton, Lincoln, Neb., and Sean Templeton, Moorhead, Minn.; and great-grandchild, Maxwell Whitten, Fort Collins._He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Templeton; parents; sister, Louanne Mills; and grandson, Michael Whitten.

Memorial services for Robert and Josephine will be held at a later date in Lusk. Memorials may be made to Harmony Lodge #24 Scholarship Fund, Congregational Church of Lusk, or the charity of donor's choice.Arrangements are entrusted to Black Hills Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
