James Blair Hogg, a much beloved and respected Pioneer of Wyoming passed away at the Black Hills Hospital at Rapid City, So. Dak., Sept. 2, 1941. He was born at Point Pleasant, West Virginia, Aug. 19,1874, the son of John T. Hogg, civil war veteran, and Harriet Lucy Hoff. His boyhood was spent on his father's farm on the Great Kanawha River near Point Pleasant. This land was surveyed by George Washington and ceded to Jim's great grandfather, Peter Hogg, by King George II for civil and military services during the Colonial, French and Indian Wars.

Here Jim spent happy years fishing in the broad river, squirrel hunting and gathering nuts and berries that grew in profusion. He came with his parents, brothers and sisters to Wyoming in 1896 and filed on land on Lance Creek near the Cheyenne River, where he engaged in the livestock industry with his two brothers, William and Ethan. Later the three brothers moved to Snyder Creek, where Jim resided until his illness.

Jim was a friend to all mankind, generous to a fault, and never knew what it was to have an enemy. Although a bachelor, Jim was very fond of children and nothing pleased him more than to give them little trinkets, playthings, or Shetland ponies.

Now:
"With a cheery smile and a wave of the hand,
He has wandered into an unknown land,
And left us dreaming how very fair--
It needs what must be, since he lingers there."

He leaves to always remember his loving kindness, a host of loyal friends, one brother Ethan, Three sisters, Mrs. C.L. Brewster, Mrs. Elvira Brown, and Mrs. J.M. Marchant and 5 nephews and 5 nieces.

His oldest brother, William, passed away one year ago, and his parents and young sister, Marion, preceded him many years ago.
