William Hogg, 70, Is Found Dead Near Home Last Saturday

William Hogg, 70, a resident of the northern part of Niobrara county for many years, was found dead early Saturday morning on the range where he had been taking care of a band of sheep. He was found by his brother Ethan and Frank Delego after he had not appeared at home the previous day. He had apparently died of a heart attack on Friday.

County Coroner Peet and Sheriff Shoopman were called and went to the place and brought the body to Lusk. Death was from natural causes it was stated.

Mr. Hogg had been living about 70 miles northwest of Lusk for many years and was well and favorably known in that section of the county. He and two brothers, Ethan and James made their home together.

William Gilmer Hogg was born at Point Pleasant, West Va., December 17, 1870, the son of John T. and Harriet Lucy Hogg. At the age of 18 he came to Wyoming and worked for the 21 Horse ranch for several years. Later he filed on a homestead in Lance Creek and with his two brothers engaged in raising cattle and thoroughbred horses. Several years ago he re-located on Snyder creek in northern Niobrara county where the brothers continued in the livestock business.

His tragic passing from this life on the 9th day of August, 1940, was at the age of 69 years, 7 months and 23 days. He leaves as survivors two brothers, James and Ethan of the Snyder Creek community; three sisters, Mrs. L. C. Brewster and Mrs. James Marchant of north Hat Creek and Mrs. E. J. Brown of Lusk.

"Bill" Hogg, as he was familiarly known among his many friends, was a very generous and friendly man - many times to his own loss, but always with kindness and consideration for the other person. He will be greatly missed by his relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Peet Mortuary in Lusk with Rev. M. H. Marshall in charge. A trumpet solo, "Abide With Me" was played by Frank Fero and two solos, "Rock Of Ages" by J. M. Hungate and "Nearer Still Nearer," by Mrs. Edna DeCastro were rendered with Mrs. C. E. Marvin as accompanist.

Pallbearers were Chris Christensen, Ray Harris, Clyde Zimmerman, Jess Boner, Jim Reed and Hans Meng. Burial was in the Lusk cemetery.
