Funeral services for Leroy "Bud" Black, 84, of Sheridan, were held Aug. 10, 2002, at the Kane Funeral Home in Sheridan, with Pastor Ray Calentine officiating. Interment was in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
Leroy "Bud" Black died Aug. 7, 2002, at Westview Health Care Center.
Bud Black was born Dec. 14, 1917, to Hugh C. and Julia L. (Baxter) Black. He grew up on the family homestead near the Cheyenne River in Niobrara County.
Bud married Eleanor "Sis" Prell on July 1, 1950. They sold the homestead in the early 1960's, moved to Big Horn, and later to Sheridan. Sis died in 1975, and he married Elsie Bartholow-Dillon Dec. 3, 1976.
Bud traveled and worked road construction as a mechanic-welder throughout Wyoming and Montana. He retired from Big Horn Coal in 1984. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.
He built a rock garden, complete with waterfall in their backyard to enjoy the bird life around the yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; five brothers; six sisters; and one grandson, Jake Black.
He is survived by his wife Elsie; two sons Shelley L. Black of Big Horn, and Thomas Dillon of Gillette; six daughters, Sherry Kelley of Douglas, Sharlotte Pulver of Gillette, Sharon VanWinkle of Casper, Carol Harrison of Gillette, Mary Shurtleff of Salt Lake City, Utah and Betty Finn of Green River; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elizabeth Mosted of Black Duck, Minn.
The family has requested memorials to the Bud Black Memorial Fund in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, PO Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.
Kane Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
