Obituary

William Walter Gilson was born at Council Bluffs, Iowa, March 25, 1858, and passed away March 20, 1933. His pilgrimage thus lacked but 5 days of reaching the allotted time for men "three score years and ten" and five years beyond. The Bible says that if men live beyond, it is due to their strength. Mr. Gilson was a strong man.

On October 5, 1880, he was married to Miss Ellen Mott, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where they lived for several years, and Mr. Gilson served on the force of city firemen. Ten children were born to this union, seven of whom have preceded their father to the life beyond.

In 1892 the family moved to Keyapaha County, Nebraska, where they resided a number of years. Then in 1915, they came to Crawford, Dawes County, Nebraska, and it was while living here that Mr. Gilson accepted Christ and was united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1918.

In 1928 his wife departed this life and was buried in Crawford and the body of Mr. Gilson will find its resting place there by her side.

About two years ago Mr. Gilson came to Lusk to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. S. Coen, and her family. About three months ago he suffered an attack of the flu and pneumonia developed. He had been practically bedfast since then. Other complications developed and Monday noon on March 20, he passed away.

He leaves to mourn his loss, three children: Grover Gilson, of Belmont, Texas; Mrs. Will Coen of Richards, Mo., and Mrs. Sam Coen of Lusk; several grandchildren and many friends along the way of a long and fruitful life.

The services were held in the parlors of the Peet Mortuary Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., and interment was to be made at Crawford, Neb. George Earl Peet had charge of arrangements. Rev. B. F. Farrar, pastor of the Baptist church, used the text, "There Remaineth, Therefore, a Rest for the People of God," Hebrews 4:9. The singers were: Mrs. Farrar, Mrs. Harriet Smith, Della Parmaley, Mrs. C. E. Marvin, Mrs. Ella Ellis, Mrs. J. P. Watson, accompanist.

The pallbearers were Glen Coen, Gerald Coen, Donald Peet, Stacy Peet, Earl Gartrell and Boyd Burrowes.
