Thelma Middleton Thomas

Services for Thelma Middleton Thomas, 87, will be at 1 p.m. March 13, 1997, at the Fort Laramie Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Judith Cuthbertson officiating.

Burial will be in the Lusk Cemetery. Memorials are to the Fort Laramie Senior Center. She died at the home of her daughter, Linda, on March 9, 1997.

She was born March 16, 1909, at Flat Rock, Miss., to Benjamin E. and Jelena (Smith) Middleton. She came to Wyoming as a small child with her parents, who homesteaded on Old Woman Creek, Niobrara County in 1910.

She married Albert E. Thomas in 1924 at Lusk. In 1940, they bought a ranch northwest of Fort Laramie, where they lived until 1956.

They moved into Laramie and after his death in 1981, she continued to make her home there. In 1995, she moved to her daughter's home in Douglas.

She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Rosalie and Raymond Hunt of Cheyenne, daughter Joan Jones of Torrington, son and daughter-in-law Linda and Arthur Hageman of Douglas, son Samuel H. and daughter-in-law, Sharon Field of Cheyenne, sister Hettie St. John of Casper; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Alberta in 1927; two brothers; and two sisters.
