LIFE STORY GIVEN

Carl Walter Baughn was born in Wyoming, Ill., May 24, 1876, the son of Benjamin F. and Rebecca Sims Baughn. At the age of three he moved with his parents to Tobias, Neb., where he attended the schools until the age of fourteen. At that time the family moved by covered wagon to Manville where he has home ever since.

His first work was to ride the range for A. A. Spaugh and he was in the Spaugh employ until after his marriage to Miss Jessie Shippen March 19, 1901. The couple had one son, Floyd Carl, who now resides with his family on their ranch near Sussex. The couple also reared a nephew and a niece; Harold Shippen and Mrs. Bessie Shippen Salzman of Casper.

After the birth of his son, Mr. Baughn was employed for several years in the Manville store of J. A. Manorgan. They later lived on their ranch just south of Jireh where they raised sheep and cattle. Twelve years ago the ranch was sold and the couple have lived at their Manville home ever since.

For years he has been interested in the political aspects of community and state life. He was an employee of the Wyoming legislature the past eight sessions and was a member of the Methodist church since 1897, the Modern Woodmen and the Wyoming Stockgrowers' Association.

Mr. Baughn is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jessie Shippen Baughn, one son, Floyd Carl Baughn of Sussex, two sister-in-law, Mrs. Mamie Rogers of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Ina Osborne, of Edgerton; two stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
