John M. Kinney Dies of Stroke in Lusk Friday

John M. Kinney was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage while walking past the Niobrara Memorial Hospital Thursday and died in the Memorial Hospital as a result at 2:00 p.m. Friday. Mr. Kinney had been in failing health for the last several years.

Rosary services were held for Mr. Kinney at the Peet Chapel Monday evening by Father M.J. McBrien and funeral mass was held at 10:00 Tuesday morning.

Casket bearers were George Gibson, Herman Hitz, Wilford Wasserburger, Paul Pfister, Joseph Pfister, and Joe Panno. Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Kinney is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ina Kinney, four children, Mrs. Ralph McFarlane of Lusk, Doris Kinney of Lusk, Mrs. Levi Shaffer of Mills, Wyoming, and Ambrose of Lusk. Surviving brothers and sisters are: J.E. Kinney of San Leandro, Calif., Joseph A. Kinney of Missoula, Mont., and Miss Alice Kinney of Portland, Ore. There are 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Donald Nier, a brother George of Omaha, and a sister Mrs. Oscar Schaubel of Tigard, Ore.

Out-of-town relatives attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Levi Shaffer and family, a grand-daughter, Mrs. James Richardson, and husband, and Bernard I. Kinney, of Omaha, Nebr. Mr. and Mrs. John Rummell and son Johnnie of Prairie Center also attended.

John Martin Kinney was born May 20, 1879 at Pontiac, Ill., the son of James J. Kinney and Mary E. Kinney. When he was 2 years old, the family moved to Nebraska where he grew to manhood.

On June 21, 1906 he was married to Ina M. Wise at Spalding, Nebr. On May 14, 1929 he moved with his family to Lusk, where he has since made his home. He was engaged in farming both in Nebraska and at Lusk until 1936, when he moved to town. For a time, he engaged in various occupations, working for a time for the city, until poor health forced his retirement.
