Ralph McFarlane Dies Here Friday
Ralph H. McFarlane, 57, died in the Niobrara Memorial Hospital Friday morning from a heart attack. He had entered the hospital with a heart condition November 6.
The Rosary was recited at the Peet Chapel Sunday evening by Father Cornelius O'Connor. Requiem High Mass was offered by Father O'Connnor at St. Leo's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Monday. Music for the service was provided by the Church choir. Active pallbearers were: Wilford Wassserburger, Harry Austin, Art Dalgarno, Mortze Wilhermsdorfer, Ray Taylor and Elmer Fleming. Honorary bearers were: James Roberts, Steve Elliott, Del Sylvester, Milton Himes, Robert Crow and Milo McClure. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.
Ralph Hugh McFarlane, the son of Albert E. and Mary Jane McFarlane, was born in Lusk May 8, 1903. April 9, 1930 he was married to Mary Ina Kinney and they were the parents of six children, Bonnita Cecilia who died in 1931, Marjorie Mary, Martin Ralph, Doris Genivieve who died in infancy, Gary Hugh and Robert Eugene. Mr. McFarlane attended elementary school in Lusk and as a young man worked in M.J. Barton's battery shop and garage. He also worked for the Argo and Ohio Oil Companies at Mule Creek for a time and for the Carbon Black Plant at Lance Creek. He was steadily employed at the Municipal Light and Power Plant for the Town of Lusk for about 27 years prior to his illness.
Several of this handiworks constructed druing his employment for the city are still in use, among them are some of the steel bridges at the Niobrara Country Club, the merry-go-round at Riverside Park and the gates to the cemetery.
Survivors include his wife Mary; a daughter, Mrs. James Sides of Moorcroft; three sons, Martin, Gary, and Robert; a sister, Mrs. Glen Wilson; a half sister, Mrs. Lloyd Hunter of Torrington; a half brother, Claude McFarlane of Tacoma, Wash.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, George, Archie and Albert (Jack).
