Martin Allen Strube

Martin Allen Strube passed peacefully at his home on February 26, 2011, after a long battle with COPD and emphysema. Martin was born in Hat Creek, Wyoming to Beecher Jay and Helen A. (Cook) Strube on October 19, 1934. He attended school early in life in Hat Creek, and he graduated from Lusk High School in 1953. After attending the University of Wyoming for one semester, Marty entered the U.S. Army in 1954 and served until 1956. After his service, he moved to Denver where one of his jobs was driving a bread truck.

Marty moved to Nevada in the 1960s and worked for the Chapel of the Bells in Reno, Nevada for several years. In 1969, he met and married Diane Jackson and became a father to her sons. He was appointed as the Douglas County Nevada Parks and Recreation Director in 1969 and remained in that position for several years. He moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1993 to be near his brother and sister. In December 1993, he went to work for AMBI Mail and Marketing where he worked until his death. He loved his customers and they were equally fond of him.

Despite a sometimes gruff exterior, Marty had a big heart. He was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, co-worker, and friend. He loved to spend time with his brother and sister, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He treasured long phone calls with loved ones not in Casper. Everyone who met him liked him and became his friend. Marty dined out often and had a special relationship with the staff at Perkins and Johnny J's because he was a good listener and had the ability to encourage others by sharing lessons learned.

Although he was known to tease and play practical jokes from time to time, Marty was very loyal, generous, humble, and complimentary, and demonstrated a soft spot for kids. Whether it was Girl Scout Cookies or raffle tickets, at Marty's house, the kids always found a sale. A good cook, he was often asked to make meatloaf sandwiches for his brother and companions before a hunting trip. He loved sports, whether participating or watching and movies, especially westerns.

Marty was strong and patient. Even though his difficulty breathing restricted his activities, he rarely complained. He was grateful for family and friends and appreciated Dr. Ideen and his staff.

Marty will be remembered and missed. Marty is survived by his brother Ed Strube and good friend Jo Pierce of Casper, his sister Barbara (Bob) Yonts all of Casper; his sons Lance (Susie) Jackson of Minden Nevada; and Scott (Crystal) Jackson of Gardnerville, Nevada. He is also survived by his grandchildren Luke and Lacie Jackson of Las Vegas, Nevada; Lindsey (Scott) Wharton, Amy, Kadie, Chase, and Ty Jackson, and his beloved great-grandchildren Taylor, Kylie, Mackenzie, and Brooke, all of Nevada.

In addition, he is survived by his nieces Debbie (Guy) Ehlers, Devon Strube, and his nephew Beecher Jay (Cathy) Strube and his great nieces and nephews Abigail, Beecher Joseph, Joel Martin, and Sarah Strube all of Casper. Other nephews and nieces include Mark (Kathy) Sigler, Joni (Charley) Lake both of Denver; Matt Fresquez of Houston Texas; Clint (Tami) Yonts, Cal (Brenda) Yonts, Cindy Pope all of Texas, Craig Yonts of Casper; and countless other family members and friends who were blessed to know him. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister Mary Lou.

Bustards funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Viewing will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 4, and from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 5. Services will be held at the First Christian Church, Saturday, March 5 at 10 a.m. with Reverend Paul Hallock officiating. A reception and luncheon at the church will follow. Interment will be at the Lusk Cemetery at 3 p.m. on March 5 with a short reception to follow at the Lusk Senior Center.

Memorials to the Scott Miller Scholarship Fund, c/o Casper College Foundation, 125 College Drive, Casper, WY 82601 are appreciated.
