Alvin Alexander

Alvin Alexander passed away Jan. 30, 2005 in Torrington.

Funeral services were held Feb. 2 at the Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk with Pastor Gary Walker officiating. Interment followed in the Dellview Cemetery at Manville

Alvin was born in North Platte, Nebr. on Feb. 21, 1911, the son of George and Rena Mary Valentine Alexander.

In 1916 Alvin's family left Nebraska and traveled by covered wagon to Muskrat Canyon, to homestead. Alvin's job was to take care of the horses. His brothers Leo, Floyd, Oscar and sister Esther lived on the homestead and to the delight of his nieces, nephews, sons and daughters Alvin would relate the stories of their homestead days and how they lived.

In 1934 Alvin married Doris Lindley. They had three children, Billie, Carol and Eldon. Alvin and Doris made their home in Manville. They loved their family and enjoyed their neighbors.

Alvin worked hard at various jobs but his life centered around his farm/ranch near Manville. He faithfully attended the Manville Church and supported all of the Manville school functions.

Alvin and Doris moved to Lusk to make their home. They took great joy in entertaining family and friends, enjoying the community activities, and going to church.

When failing health made a move to Torrington necessary he always spoke of Niobrara County as his home.

He was preceded in death by his wife Doris and his brothers and sister.

He is survived by his son, Eldon Alexander, wife Sonja; daughter, Billie Par and husband Bob; daughter, Carol Mueller and husband Jim; grandchildren, Bobbie Tyler, Teresa, Todd Park, Rusty, Bryan, and Scott Mueller, Heidi Kramm, and Jason Alexander; nineteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; three sister-in-laws, Emma Alexander, Bette Alexander, and Marge Lee; one brother-in-law, Jack Lee and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Alexander were honored by 114 guests Sunday afternoon in celebration of their 40th Wedding Anniversary. The Open House was held at the Alexander home in Manville from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m.

Hosts for the party were the children and grandchildren of the couple, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Alexander, Heidi and Jason, Lusk, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Parks, Bobbie, Teresa and Todd, Cody and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mueller, Rusty, Brian and Scott, Torrington.

A white cake decorated in pink with wedding bells and silver balls highlighted the reception table. Guests were also served pink, green, and white mints, nuts, punch and coffee.

Mrs. Louis Bowen cut and served the cake, Mrs. Hazel Knudsen served punch and Mrs. Edna Fullerton poured coffee. Leah Winder attended the guest book.

Mrs. Alexander greeted the guests in a light blue dress with which she wore a red rose corsage and Mr. Alexander wore a red rose corsage boutonniere. Other floral arrangements, gifts from family and friends decorated the home. All those assisting at the Open House wore white carnation corsages.

Out of town guests attending were Dennis Johnson and Lori, Rialto, Calif., Mrs. Elizabeth Fosher, Mrs. Katrina Mariegard, Mrs. Emma Elders, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Radford, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Klemke, Mrs. Wilma Bigner, O.M. Rasmussen, all of Torrington; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Alexander, Casper; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Alexander, Fort Morgan,Colo.: Mrs. Emma Fillerup, Thermopolis; Mrs. Wanda Harris, Kathy and Larry, Denver; Roger Scott, Albuquerque; Misses Carmen and Karen Mangis, Billings, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs.. Harry Burke, Lander; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reese, Shawnee and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Lee, Riverton.

A dinner for the family members was held at the Valli-Hi restaurant in Torrington Saturday evening.
