Oscar Hanson Dies Saturday

Oscar Hanson, a former long time resident of Sioux County when he was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, died at his home in Torrington, Wyo., on Saturday. Funeral services were held Tuesday with graveside services and burial at Harrison.

Among survivors is Mr. Hanson's daughter, Mrs. William C. Coffee formerly of Harrison and now residing at Torrington.

Funeral services for John Oscar Hanson, who died March 30, were held at the Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington on April 2 at 2:00 p.m. with burial following in the Harrison Cemetery where the Rev. J. Lee Gorman conducted graveside services.

Mr. Hanson was the oldest living member of the first graduation class of Sioux County High School at Harrison in 1901. He was born at Ida Grove, Iowa, July 26, 1884, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hanson.

He assisted J. H. Newlin print the first edition of the Harrison Sun. He married Edith Hoyt September 25, 1919, at Chadron. Mr. Hanson became a telegrapher for the Chicago & North Western Railroad retiring 21 years ago, and was a ham radio operator. His telegraphy was learned from Mr. Pontius of Harrison. Mr. Hanson moved to Goshen County after retirement making his home with a daughter and 11 years ago moved into Torrington.

He was a member of the Korein Temple of the Shrine in Rawlins, Wyo. and the Consistory in Cheyenne, Masonic Lodge No. 22 of Glenrock and the Elks Lodge of Chadron.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. William (Ramona) Coffee of Torrington and Mrs. Raymond (Mazie Lou) Uhrich of Magnolia, Ark.; two sons, William C. of Fullerton, Calif., and John W. of San Diego; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Attending the services at Torrington were Mr. and Mrs. John E. Eberspecher, Mrs. S. D. Coffee, and Miss Nellie Bannan all of Harrison; Mr. and Mrs. Slim Tibbitts, and Mrs. Harlan Lohr of Lusk; Miss Edna Hanson of Van Tassell; and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Heckert and daughter of Douglas, Wyo.

Following graveside services relatives and friends met at the home of Mrs. S. D. Coffee in Harrison.
