Miss Flora Thomas of Keeline Dies

Word of the death of Miss Flora Thomas, 67, of Keeline, on Friday, January 6 has been received by friends here. Miss Thomas was in Ohio caring for a sister who had broken her hip, when she was stricken.

Her sister, Mrs. Irene Dupes of Keeline, left at once for Ohio upon receiving word of the serious illness of Miss Thomas and arrived shortly before she passed away.

Miss Thomas taught school in the Keeline community for many years and was prominent in all social and civic enterprises in that community. She is a past matron of Mariposa Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star of Manville.

Among the survivors is a brother, Willis Thomas of Casper, two sisters in Ohio, and her sister, Mrs. Irene Dupes of Keeline. A niece, Mrs. Mick Coen also resides in Keeline.

Funeral services and burial took place in Ohio on Monday.

Services Held for Florence E. Thomas

Funeral services for Florence E. Thomas, former school teacher in Converse and Niobrara counties, were held at Marseilees, Ohio, on Monday, January 9. Mrs. Irene Dupes of Keeline, sister of Mrs. Thomas, was with Mrs. Thomas at the time of her death on January 6.

She died at the McKitrick Hospital at Kenton, Ohio, after being seriously ill for two weeks.

She was born in Custer County, Nebraska, December 3, 1882, the daughter of William C. and Lucy (Lehr) Thomas. When eight years of age she moved, with her parents, to Ohio, and here attended school at Cook, Marseilles, and the Ohio Northern University. She later attended the University of Wyoming at Laramie.

She taught school in Wyandot County, Ohio, for several years and then in 1909 she came west and homesteaded near Douglas. She continued to teach both in Converse and Niobrara counties until 1947, when she retired.

Last September she went to Marseilles to spend the winter with her sisters, the Misses May, and Bertha Thomas, and a cousin, Mrs. Bessie Penquite. Another sister who survives is Mrs. Irene Dupes of Keeline, Wyo., and two brothers, 0. B. Thomas of Marsseilles, Ohio, and W. F. Thomas of Casper, Wyo. An uncle and an aunt, Dr. and Mrs. W.F. Lehr of Arlington, Ohio, and an aunt, Mrs. W.O. Thomas, of Marseilles, Ohio, also many nieces and nephews.

One brother. Dr. F.L. Thomas, preceded his sister in death.

For the past few years Miss Thomas has made her home with a niece, Mrs. Florence Coen and family of Keeline.

Miss Thomas was formerly a member of the Methodist Church of Marseilles, but transferred her membership to the Congregational Church of Keeline, where she had served as the Sunday School superintendent for the past two years.

She is a past matron of Mariposa Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of Manville, and a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary of Keeline.

Funeral services and interment took place in Marseilles, Ohio, on Monday, January 9th. Mrs. Irene Dupes of Keeline was with her sister at the time of her death.
