Gilbert George Hughes

Gilbert George Hughes, pioneer resident of the Flattop community, died April 23 at the Goshen County Memorial Hospital in Torrington.

Funeral service was held April 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the Peet Chapel with the Rev. Frank Bozart officiating. Organist Mrs. Edna DeCastro accompanied Mark Lohr as he sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Honorary pallbearers were all of his old friends. Casket bearers were Arlo Bowen, Orman Millikin, Kenneth Houx, George Pollack, Lyle Smathers and James Archie. A memorial for hospital equipment has been established.

Gilbert Hughes was born Sept. 4, 1918 at Flattop, the third child of Ewart and Olga Christensen Hughes. He attended school in the Flattop Community and Feb. 14, 1939 he married Daisy Harvey at Wheatland. They began ranching 1 1/2 miles north west of Meadowdale where their home is still located.

Mr. Hughes was an active member and past officer of the Meadowdale Roping Club, a member of the Wyo. Stock Growers Association and a Wyoming Brand Inspector.

Mr. Hughes is survived by his widow, Daisy; 3 daughters, Laural Lohr, Lusk, and Della and Donlyn Hughes of the family home; 3 sons, Harvey, Douglas, Dallas, Hartville and Neal, Guernsey; 2 sisters, Mrs. Elmer Johnson, Glendo and Mrs. Ruth Hytrek, Lusk; one brother, Edward, Keeline and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, Terry and Gilbert and 2 grandchildren.
