Raime Verne Fosher

Raime Verne Fosher, 78, of Lusk, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Niobrara Health and Life Center after a very courageous battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 13 at 3 p.m. at Niobrara County High School Auditorium.

He was born Oct. 30, 1930 in Lusk, Wyo. to Harold and Vernal (Lamb) Fosher.

Raime graduated from Manville High School in 1949. He was an active member of the 103rd Transportation Truck Company of the Wyoming National Guard from 1948 through 1957.

In 1951 he married Marion Hughes of Oakdale, Neb. To this union four children were born: Monte, Corky, Robin and Matt.

A man of many talents, he was a truck driver and serviceman for Wyoming Gas; a rancher; construction worker for Lamb Construction; and a ranch manager for Dale Fullerton before being able to lease the home ranch to run cattle of his own. In 1978 he started to drive a school bus while still ranching. After retiring from ranching in 1982 he continued to drive school bus until 2003, when his health forced him to retire.

In 1983 he married Sharon Sparks of Lusk, Wyo. They were married for 16 years, until her death in 1999.

One of the hobbies Raime enjoyed most was being involved with the Legend of Rawhide. He rode as an Indian in his younger days, and as a member of the Cavalry and wagon train in later years. He also enjoyed being a handyman, and was very good with woodworking, selling items he made at craft shows. He enjoyed collecting items of historical interest, such as barb wire, telephone insulators, bits and harnesses. He was very proud of his grandchildren as they grew up, and loved following their football, basketball, and track careers.

He is survived by his children: daughter Robin of Vancouver, Washington; three sons: Monte (Gail) of Crownpoint, Indiana; Corky (Linda) of Lusk; and Matt of Bonham, Texas; one brother, Dean, of Lusk; grandchildren Cory, Casey, Eric, Craig, Michelle, Brittany, Shaelee, Wylie, Scott and Erin; and great-grandchildren Cooper, Callen, Kashtyn, Ashlyn, and Brynn.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Sharon, and precious granddaughter Shania Rae.

Memorials may be made to the family. Pier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
