Mrs. Anna Rice Dies Saturday; Funeral Today

Mrs. Anna Marie Rice, 77, died in the Manring Convalescent Home in Lusk Saturday. She had been in failing health for sometime. Funeral services will be held from the Peet Chapel Thursday at 2:00. Burial will be beside her husband, John R. Rice in the Lusk Cemetery. Mr. Rice died in 1956.

The Rev. James Jacobsen of Torrington who is serving as interim pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Lusk, will officiate at the services. Active pallbearers are Pete Owens, Oscar Bostrom, Bill Bredthauer, Henry Klemke, Harry Baars, Martin Glandt, Charles Heumier all of Lusk and Leo Heins of Torrington.

Honorary pallbearers are Louis Bass, Leonard Seaman, Pat Costlow, Otto Klemke, W. L. Klemke, Andrew McMaster, Henry Lenz, Wesley Wolf, William Intveen, George Earl Peet.

At the services Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Mrs. Emerson Bonner will sing, "Abide With Me" and "Asleep In Jesus." Mrs. J. P. Watson is organist.

Mrs. Rice was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Wendte and was born in New Castle, Nebr., Dec. 5, 1887. She attended the public schools there and later attended Wayne State College at Wayne, Nebr.

February 17, 1909 she and Mr. Rice were married in Martinsburg, Nebr. For a time they made their home in Ponca, Nebr. where their oldest daughter, Clara Josephine was born. Later they took up a homestead seven miles south of Van Tassell. Here two more children, Mildred Marie and Willis John, were born.

The Rice family moved to Lusk in 1923 so that the children might attend school. She lived here ever since.

During her entire life she was a devoted member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. She loved to make plants grow and the flowers which grew in her yard gave clear evidence of that fact.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Clara Fullerton of Riverton; a son, Willis John of Chadron; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Martinson, Mrs. Doris Miller, Mrs. Esther Hart; two brothers, George and Alfred Wendte, 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
