Concluding Rites for John R. Rice Are Saturday Afternoon; Interment In Family Plot of Lusk Cemetery

Concluding rites for the late John R. Rice, who passed away at the family home last Wednesday morning, April 11th, were conducted from the Chapel of the Peet Funeral Home, with Rev. Fred C. Doctor, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.

A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Otha Holcomb, Neoma Taylor, Henry Fitzgibbon and Donley Unruh, sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Rock of Ages." They were accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Judson P. Watson.

Bearing the remains to their final resting place in the Lusk Cemetery were Gerhard Vick, Richard Lenz, A. C. Tibbits, P. J. Owens, Gene Bass, J. Wesley Wolfe, Emil Klemke and Martin Glandt.

Honorary pallbearers included Ralph Olinger, Lou Bass, Henry Kaan, John Siemsen, Leonard Seeman, Lawrence Seeman, Lavern James, Otto Klemke, Carl Dallon, Walter Klemke, Leo Himes and Charles Heumier.

John Riley Rice was born at Neola, Iowa on August 11, 1888, the son of Thomas and Johanna Fitzpatrick Rice. On February 17, 1909 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Wendte at Newcastle, Nebraska; and two daughters Mrs. Ivan Fullerton of Riverton, Wyo. and Mrs. Mildred Price, who preceded him in death.

The family moved to Wyoming in 1910 and homesteaded south of Van Tassell, where they resided until 1924, at which time they moved to Lusk.

Other than his wife Anna and his son Willis, and daughter, Mrs. Clara Fullerton, he is survived by eight grandchildren.

John Rice Dies of Stroke at Lusk Home Wednesday

John Rice, 68, died at 4:45 a.m. this Wednesday morning from a stroke. Mr. Rice became ill and was starting to get out of bed when he collapsed on the floor. Funeral services are tentatively set for Friday or Saturday afternoon from the Peet Chapel.

Mr. and Mrs. Rice came to Wyoming in 1910 and homesteaded south of Van Tassell. They moved to Lusk in 1924 after retiring from ranching where they have since made their home. He was engaged in the insurance business for a number of years. One daughter, Mrs. Mildred Price, died in 1952.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Willis of Chadron; one daughter, Mrs. Ivan Fullerton of Riverton, and several grandchildren.

Funeral Services For John Rice Are Held Here Saturday

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from the Peet Chapel for John Rice, 67, of Lusk who died April 11 following a stroke. Rev. F. C. Doctor, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lusk officiated. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery.
