Funeral services for Lucille F. Emery, 80, were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Douglas with Reverend Carol A. Prochaska officiating.

Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery with Mountain Valley Rebekah Lodge #15 conducting graveside rites.

Mrs. Emery, a resident of Douglas, died Friday, May 5, 2006, at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas.

She was born October 23, 1925, in Iola, Illinois the daughter of Jesse T. and Hazel (Mason) Freeman. When she was five years of age, the family moved to Wyoming, settling in the Keeline area. She attended school at Keeline and graduated from high school in 1944 from Manville.

She was the first in her family to complete high school. After completing teacher's training, she taught school at rural schools in Niobrara County. She met Donovan H. Emery during this time, and they married on September 12, 1948, in Douglas. They lived on the family ranch until 1953, when they moved to Lance Creek.

In 1960, the family moved to Jay Em, for about two years, where Don worked at the 0-10 Ranch and then moved to Douglas. Later, she and Don owned and operated D and L Auto Wash that she operated most of the time while Don worked. She enjoyed the people and made many friends.

She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and Mountain Valley Rebekah Lodge #15, which she held local and state offices and was a 60-year member of Rebekahs. She was a member of the Manville Homemakers and a former member of the North Platte Homemakers. She was active in the Douglas Senior Citizens Center, which she especially enjoyed singing, jam sessions and playing pinochle with the Wednesday group.

She was a crossword puzzle whiz and an exceptional speller. In later years, she lived with her youngest son during the school year, helping with the younger grandchildren. It was a special time for her.

She is survived by three sons and their wives, Bert and Diana Emery and George and Becky Emery all of Douglas, and Ben and Raili Emery of Story, Wyoming; seven grandchildren, Sara, Casey, Jessica, Bret, Scot, Nathan, and Raien; great grandson, Trey; and her sister, Vira Haller of Casper, Wyoming.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don, on October 18, 1990; her grandson, Josh Emery, on September 9, 1994; her sister, Helen Purlenfein; her brothers, Curtis, Ralph, Vaughn, Arthur, Warren, and Lee Freeman; and her special friend Allen Heins of Manville.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Young, Jerry Dilts, Dave Heyborne, John Paronto, George P. Etchemendy, and Jeff Lindmier.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon.

A memorial to the Congregational United Church of Christ, P. O. Box 122, Douglas, WY 82633 or to the Douglas Senior Citizens Center, P. O. Box 192, Douglas, WY 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
