Chris Jassman, Area Rancher, dies last Wed.

Christian "Chris" Jassman, 70, who spent most of his life ranching in Niobrara County died at his home May 5. Funeral service was conducted Saturday.

Chris Jassman was born Aug. 16, 1905, at Tripp, S.D., the son of John and Emelia Bucholz Jassmann. The family moved to Wyoming when he was five, and he attended school in the Kirtley Community.

Oct. 28, 1932 he married Emma Page. They were the parents of four children.

Jassman ranched on his father's ranch northeast of Lusk until 1946 when he moved to his present ranch. As a young man he worked with the cavalry as a civilian at Fort Robinson. He married Wilma Mayhan in 1961 at Harrison.

The Rev. Fred Bolinger officiated at the funeral held at Peet Chapel. Mrs. Edna DeCastro, organist, accompanied Tim Johnson as he sang, "The Last Roundup" and "Beautiful isle of Somewhere." Honorary bearers were Fred Sheaman, Bob Fancher, Ernie Hansen, Albert Ruffing, Roy Turnbull, Levern James, Ben Sturman, C. E. Marvin, Roy Johnson, Jim Groves, Ray Freeman, Charles Lund and Frank Christian. Casket bearers were Richard Lenz, Dale Fullerton, Lee James, Walter Reed, Robert Sides and Clayton Sides. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Survivors are his widow, Wilma; seven children, Helen Moriarty, Sheridan; Mary Ann Hart, Gillette; David Jassman, Lusk; Judy Lamb, Torrington; Joyce Esquivel, Omaha, Neb. Sandy Ross, Lance Creek, and Raymond Mayhan, Byron; four sisters Sophie Klemke, Katie Jugler, and Emelia Anderson, all of Lusk and Elsie Buckholz, Hendrichs, Minn.; two brothers, John Jassman, Lusk and Hap (Harold) Jassman of Casper and 16 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother Bill.
