Funeral services for former Lusk resident-Phyllis Jane DeGroot Manning were held Monday, October 27th, 1997 at the Bader Funeral Home in Lusk at 2:00 p.m.

Rose Kremers accompanied Jerri Hineman on the organ as she sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "How Great Thou Art". Rev. Helen Oates presided at the services. Burial was in the Lusk cemetery.

Mrs. Manning passed away at her home in Arlington, Texas October 22, 1997.

She was born in Lusk, Wyoming on September 3, 1926, the youngest child of Carl Clinton and Maude Alice Maxon DeGroot, of eleven children. She attended school in Lusk and graduated with the Class of 1944 from Lusk High School. She was employed as a clerk at Scriven Drug and was a cashier at the Wyoming Theatre while living here. She was baptized at the Congregational Church on March 29, 1945.

Phyllis and Joseph Astin Manning were married in Provo, Utah on August 24, 1950 by former Lusk Congregational minister Rev. Edwin F. Irwin. The couple moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1951 where Mr. Manning later graduated as an aeronautical engineer. They lived in Dallas where he was Service Officer for Ling-Temco-Vought Aeronautics, and Phyllis worked for a finance company.

They were later transferred to Edwards AF Base, California where their son, Joseph William and daughter, Diane Sue were born. The couple transferred back to Arlington, Texas where they have since made their home.

Mrs. Manning was preceded in death by her husband on February 25, 1971; her parents; six brothers - Everette, Donald, James, Daniel, Carl Jr., and Val; three sisters - Margaret Sturman, Dorothy Tenney and Ada D. Vogel.

Survivors include her son, Joe of Arlington; daughter, Diane Spradling and husband James; one grandson - Mathew James Spradling, all of Fort Worth; one brother - John DeGroot of Denver, Colorado and several nieces and nephews and one brother-in-law Robert R. Willson.

Serving as pallbearers were James S. Potter, Joe Andrews, Edgar Boner, Ray Taylor, Joe McCullough and Norman Eugene Blacknore.

Bader Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
