Mrs. John Lohr Dies Suddenly in Lusk Monday

Mrs. John Lohr of Kirtley, wife of a pioneer resident of the county, died very suddenly at the Lusk Hospital Monday morning, the announcement coming as a distinct shock to scores of friends of the Lohr family in every part of the county, where they are well known and universally respected.

Mrs. Lohr was taken sick Sunday, and Dr. Dovey of Lusk was hastily summoned. Upon the doctor's arrival it was found that her condition was so serious that she was immediately brought to the hospital in Lusk. She was suffering from an advanced case of uraemic poisoning. The baby was born Monday evening, and the mother expired shortly thereafter.

The baby is a pretty little girl, and at last reports was doing well, and would survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon about 2:30 at the Lohr family home in Kirtley.

Rev. Cowman, the Congregational minister at Van Tassell, was to have officiated, but is confined to his bed and will not be able to officiate. It is probably that Rev. S. C. Cadle of the Congregational Church of Lusk will have charge of the services.

The Peet undertaking service will have charge of the arrangements. On account of the storm, Mr. Peet and Mr. Lohr, accompanied by two other cars, started for the Lohr home at Kirtley at about 4:30 Tuesday afternoon, and finally made the trip in the raging blizzard. Some of the cars went into the ditch, but the trip was made without serious accident.

Mrs. Lohr has been a resident of the county for many years and has a host of friends who will be grieved to learn of her untimely death.

Further details are not available at this time, but a complete obituary will be published next week.

Mrs. John Lohr Laid to Rest at Kirtley Sunday

After being delayed for several days by the storm, the funeral of Mrs. John Lohr, who died in the Lusk hospital last Monday morning, March 11th, was held at Kirtley last Sunday, March 17, with burial in the Kirtley cemetery. Services took place in the Kirtley hall, and in spite of the heavy snow and bad weather, the hall was crowded to capacity with friends and neighbors who came to pay their last respects to a woman who was much loved and respected by a wide circle of friends.

It was with much difficulty that the Peet funeral service hearse made its way to Kirtley through the heavy drifts. The hearse, driven by Mr. Peet, and accompanied by Rev. B. F. Farrar, was convoyed by a truck and six men with shovels, who assisted in breaking the road. By Friday night at dark the party had reached the Coffey ranch, where they were taken in for the night. Early next morning they started out again to battle the drifts, reaching the Lohr ranch about noon.

The neighbors had opened up the road to the Kirtley hall and to the cemetery. Rev. B. F. Farrar, Baptist minister of Lusk, officiated at the services, which were very simple and impressive, in keeping with the life of the deceased. A complete obituary will be found in another column of The Herald.
