Geneva McConahey

Note:   This obituary uses McConahey as Geneva's last name. Other family members also refer to Geneva as Geneva McConahey. Her husband and his family use the spelling McConaughey.

Geneva McConahey was born on November 1, 1908, the youngest of seven children, of Malter and Martha Lohr Larson. She was born on the ranch six miles east of Lusk, where she spent her childhood. Geneva attended grade school and two years of high school at Node, and then transferred to Lusk where she received her diploma in 1926. Geneva attended the University of Wyoming for two years then returned to Node to teach grade school.

On November 11, 1928, she married Ted McConahey in Hot Springs, S.D. She finished teaching that term at Node, then hopped in her 1928 model A Ford and drove to Borger, Texas where Ted was employed by J.M. Huber Co. Making Borger their home, she began working as a secretary with a lumber company until retirement in 1968. After retirement Ted and Geneva enjoyed golf and traveling, even taking a trip to China.

After Ted's passing in April 1972, Geneva remained in Borger with her many friends. She continued to do some traveling. Bus tours, a cruise and a flight around the world. In 1993 she did not feel comfortable caring of herself. Her nephew Noal Larson and his wife Evelyn brought her back to live in Lusk with them for several years. She spent some time at the Niobrara County Nursing Home until it closed, and then she moved to Shepherd in the Valley in Casper. Her niece Catherine Larson Noah looked in on her frequently. She passed away July 12.

Geneva is preceded in death by her husband Ted; three brothers Ralph, Raymond and Warren Larson; three sisters Clara Thomas, Irene Leeling Lewis and Cecil Holdemen Montgomery.

Many nieces, nephews and cousins, including four generations, survive her.

Interment will be in Borger, Texas beside her husband Ted.

Memorials may be made to the Lusk Nursing Home.
