Julia B. Cook

Services for Julia (Judy) B. Cook, 78, of Lusk were held Monday, April 5, 1993, at 2 p.m., in the Bader Peet Mortuary Chapel.

Cook died Tuesday, March 30, 1993, at the Niobrara Memorial Nursing Home after a long illness. She was born Feb. 14, 1915, at Akron, Colo., the daughter of Hugh C. and Julia (Baxter) Black. The family moved to Edgemont, S. D., in 1918 and then to a homestead on Boggy Creek in northern Niobrara County in 1919. She attended the rural Central School and Lusk High School. After graduating in 1933 she became a beautician.

On Sept. 26, 1935, she married Edmond M. Cook. They lived in Lance Creek until 1941 when they moved to the ranch near Hat Creek, where they lived until Mr. Cook died in 1984.

Judy was a 4-H club leader for many years, a CowBelle, a longtime member of the Hat Creek Ladies Club and a charter member of the Niobrara County Historical society. She was very artistic and enjoyed making many different kinds of craft items. Her yard and garden also received much of her attention.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Stanley; four brothers, Hugh Black, Bob Black, John Black and Charles Black; three sisters, Mary Wood, Lucille Shrum and Gladys Rumney.

Survivors include a son, Edmond A. Cook of Lusk; a granddaughter, Tena Cook of Chadron, Neb.; two brothers, Bud Black of Sheridan, Wyo. and Spec Black of Lusk, Wyo.; two sisters, Elizabeth Mosted of Black Duck, Minn. and Geneve Hamell of Casper and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials to the Niobrara County Historical Society or the Niobrara Memorial Nursing Home would be appreciated by the family.
