Glen Cates Dies In Cheyenne, Services Here

Funeral service was held Tuesday for a former long-time Lusk resident, Glen L. Cates, 77, who died in the Cheyenne Memorial Hospital Sunday. He has lived since 1958 in Cheyenne.

The Rev. Robert Boutwell conducted the service. Mark Lohr, soloist, dang "The Lord's Prayer" accompanied by Mr. Gerald Bardo, organist.

Honorary pall bearers were George Mill, James Thompson, Russell Thompson, William D Miller, C. E. Marvin all of Lusk; Thomas O. Miller, Sun City Ariz.; John Kennedy, Dwight Bonham, state examiner, William J. Strike, deputy state examiner, K. H. McIlhenny, senior bank examiner, Tom Plemel and Robert Bon, both examiners, all of Cheyenne.

Casket bearers were Dr. Francis A. Barrett, Judge James E. Barrett, C. P. "Red" Owens, and James Decker all of Cheyenne, Dr. Thomas A Ward, Casper, and Roy Chamberlain, Richard G. Pfister and Robert Templeton, Lusk.

Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery with graveside services conducted by Harmony Masonic Lodge No. 24.

Glen L. Cates was born March 13, 1897, at Bancroft, Neb. He came to Lusk in the early 20's were he worked in a men's store and then owned and operated the Henry Hotel for several years. He served in the Army during World War I.

For many years he worked in the US Post Office in Lusk and was assistant postmaster when he retired in 1958. He moved to Cheyenne, where he worked in the State Examiner's Office for 10 years.

He was married to Louise Larson.

Mr. Cates was a past master of Harmony Masonic Lodge. In December he would have been a 50 year member of that organization. He was also a member of Korein Temple of the Shrine and the Wyoming Consistory. Mr. Cates was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, one son Bob Cates of Fort Collins; one brother A E. Cates, Glendora, Calif.; one sister Ethel Johns, Dewitt, Neb., and three grandchildren.

The family has requested that memorials be made to the Cancer Fund.
