Agnes Burge

Funeral service for long-time Lusk resident and businesswoman, Agnes Burge, was held last Friday, Oct. 2 at Peet Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Lawrence Kelley officiated with burial in the Lusk Cemetery.

Agnes Burge, 85, died September 29 at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was born August 23, 1896, at Josston, Minn. After being educated as a teacher in Minnesota, she taught school there for 15 years.

She moved to Lusk in 1931 and on February 4, 1933, opened the Quality Shop, a ladies apparel store, which she operated actively for 47½ years until the time of her death.

On September 3, 1939, she married Bryan Burge, a Lusk businessman, who preceded her in death in 1959.

Mrs. Burge was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lusk, the Order of Eastern Stars, P.E.O., Rebekah Lodge and the Lusk Chamber of Commerce. She is survived by three sisters, Gina Berry of Denver, Clara Shindoll of Lusk and Lillian Schippers of Lusk and Bemidji, Minn.; one brother, Oscar H. Johnson of Gully, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.

Music during the memorial service was by Edna DeCastro, organist, and Marilyn Cockreham who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond The Sunset." Active pallbearers were Johnnie Thon, William Allen, Venus Kilmer, Graydon Hoblit, Lee Thomas and Paul Heany.

Memorials may be made to the Lusk Baptist Church or to the Niobrara Nursing Home.
