Mrs. Anthon Hansen, Early Resident here, Dies in Sleep

Mrs. Anthon (Gertrude) Hansen, 78, of Lusk was found dead in bed Tuesday morning at her home at South Elm Street.

She was born in Norway July 11, 1888, to Karl and Christina Larsen, coming to the United States in 1906.

July 11, 1910, she married Anthon Hansen at Douglas, Wyo. They were the parents of three daughters, Mrs. Katherine Wood, Casper,; Mrs. Marie Golden, Apple Valley, Calif.; Mrs. Anna Louis Justus, Albuquerque, N. M.; and three sons, Ernest of Lusk, Carl and Glen of Thermopolis, all of whom are living.

Mrs. Hansen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church of Lusk and belonged to the Divide Tumbleweed Club.

Funeral services are being held this Thursday from the Peet Chapel at 2:00 o'clock with The Rev. Fred Schuett officiating. Burial will be in the Lusk cemetery.

Pallbearers are Roy Turnbull, Oscar Bostrom, Menno Kaan, Henry Klemke, Carl Lund, and Fred Hansen.

Survivors besides her husband Anthon and six children are: a sister, Mrs. Carrie Brown of Lusk, 17 living grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous relatives in Norway and locally.

A memorial fund is being established.

Services for Mrs. Anthon Hansen held Fri.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Anthon Hansen at the Peet Chapel, Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Burial was in the Lusk cemetery.

The Rev. Fred Schuett, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiated. "Nearer My God to Thee" and "I'm But a Stranger Here" were sung by Bill Huey with Mrs. Sigmund Hahn as organist.

Casket bearers were Carl Lund, Menno Kaan, Henry Klemke, Oscar Bostrom, Fred Hansen and Roy Turnbull.

Gertrude Larsen was born in Flekkefjord, Norway, July 11, 1888 to Karl and Christina Larsen. She received her education and grew up to young womanhood in Norway. In 1906 she, with her sister Carrie Brown and cousin, Gus Hansen, came to Lusk where they were employed by their aunt, Mrs. Lena Henry in the Northwestern Hotel.

Here she met Anthon Hansen, who came to Lusk as a blacksmith. July 11, 1910 they were married at Douglas where they resided until March 1913, when they homesteaded on the divide, six miles northeast of Lusk. This ranch remained their home for over 30 years. At the ranch six children, all of whom survive, were born and grew to adulthood. In the fall of 1944 they moved from their ranch home to their present home on South Elm Street in Lusk.

In 1948 she, accompanied by her husband Anthon and daughter Anna Louise revisited her childhood home in Norway as well as Mr. Hansen's home in Denmark.

Gertrude Hansen died quietly in her sleep at her home in Lusk September 20.

Survivors are her husband, Anthon of Lusk; six children, Ernest of Lusk, Katherine Wood of Casper; Carl and Glen of Thermopolis; Marie Golden of Apple Valley, Calif.; Anna Louise Justus of Albuquerque, N. Mex.; 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, a sister, Carrie Brown of Lusk; and two brothers and a sister in Norway; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Relatives from out-of-town included all her children, Rex Van Blarcum of Casper and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Berry of Newcastle.
