Connie Raia Panno, a native of Palermo, Sicily, and a longtime Niobrara County resident, died last Thursday at Niobrara County Memorial Hospital. She was 76.
She married Joseph Panno in Palermo in April, 1918, and they left immediately for the United States.
They lived on a homestead at Keeline until 1929, when they moved to Manville.
In 1949, they purchased and operated Bud's Hamburgers in Lusk, and two years later they purchased the Ranger Flower Shop, which they operated until 1956, when they bought Pop's diner.
Following her husband's death in 1958, Mrs. Panno sold the diner and purchased Floyd's Greenhouse and Flower Shop in 1959, changing the name to Connie's. She continued in business until her retirement in 1973.
Mrs. Panno was an active member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, the American Legion auxiliary, Business and Professional Women and the Royal Neighbors of America.
She is survived by a daughter, Jean Moore, of LaHabra, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and two sisters.
A rosary was recited at Peet Mortuary last Friday night, and a mass was said the next morning at St. Leo's, with the Rev. Bernard Bianco officiating.
Karen Ediger was the organist and Norma Willson the soloist. Songs were "Immaculate Mary" and "O Lord I Am Not Worthy"
Burial was at Lusk Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Welch, Floyd Bartos, Lloyd Coleman, Floyd Alexander, Ab DeCastro and Edwin Tschacher.
