Oressa Jordan, 81, pioneer resident of Sioux County, died last Thursday, July 9, at her home in Harrison.
Funeral services were held at the Memorial Methodist Church in Harrison at 2 p.m. Sunday and burial was in the Bodarc Cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews; Bill Fitzgerald of Grant, Neb., Allen Jordan and Edward Jordan of Harrison, Richard Jordan of Whitney, Jack Hunter, Jr. of Ardmore, and David Jordan of Miles City, Mont.
Oressa Mary Jordan was born February 7, 1883 in Nova Scotia, the daughter of John and Margaret Hunter. When she was a baby her parents moved west with a wagon train to Bon Homme County, S. Dak. In 1885 the family moved to Sioux County and settled in the Hat Creek Valley north of Harrison, later known as the Bodarc community. There she grew to womanhood receiving her education in the schools and later keeping house for her father after the death of her mother.
On October 1, 1902, she married Robert E. Jordan, and seven children were born to them. Two, John and Mary, died in infancy and Raymond Edwin (Buck) died in February 1963.
For a few years after her marriage she lived on a homestead in Sioux County, but in 1911 the family moved to the Indian Creek country in Wyoming where they resided until the death of her husband in December 1928. In 1934 she moved to Lusk and several years later to Harrison where she has resided since.
Her pep and zest for living made her home a gathering place for all ages, particularly young people, and later two grandchildren, Bobbie Ann and Jack Sankey, spent much of their life with her.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Rudy Hartman (Sarah), Mrs. Vernon Chard (Margaret) of the Indian Creek community, and Mrs. Quinton Sampont (Bernience) of Wallace, Ida.; one son Dan of Harrison; two brothers Jack Hunter of Ardmore and Tom Hunter of Casper, Wyo.; four sisters, Abbie Orcutt of Grant, Nebr. Margaret Dunn of Norfolk, Neb.; Mabel Jordan of Miles City, Mont., and Myrtle Points of Rushville, Neb. There are six granddaughters, two grandsons and 11 great grandchildren.
Out-of-town relatives attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hunter, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hunter Jr. and son of Ardmore; Mrs. Abbie Orcutt , Mrs. Bruce Lyons, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fitzgerald of Grant; Emmett Jordan, Mr. and Mrs. David Jordan, Mrs. John LaBree and Mrs. Sadie Pettins of Miles City; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hunter and Mrs. Reg Chrisman of Casper ; Mrs. Myrtle Points , Rushville; Mr. and Mrs. Quinton Sanpont Wallace, Idaho; Mr. and Mrs. Neil Mohr and family, Osburn, Ida., Mrs. Dean Peterson and son, Silverton, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. John Magan and family of Denver.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bristol of Hot Springs visited her mother, Mrs. Nellie Jordan on Sunday and attended funeral services for Mrs. Oressa Jordan.
