The Lusk Herald, May 22, 1947

Leonard Larsen, 15-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs Ernest Larsen of Harrison and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. P.O. Person of this vicinity, was killed Saturday afternoon at his home when a cave he was digging caved in on him.

The cave was just a play affair. He had gone out to dig after lunch with his younger sister. She left him a while to go into the house and listen to a radio program and when she came out she discovered a cavein. Just his feet were sticking out. She called her mother, and the mother sent the girl a quarter of a mile to a Harrison filling state to get help and then started to dig the boy out. The father was working about 10 miles away on the railroad. All attempts at resuscitation failed.

The family formerly lived in Lusk. Leonard Leman Larsen was born January 26,1932 in Lusk and attended the grade schools of Wyoming and Nebraska. He entered the ninth grade of Sioux County High School at Harrison last September.

He is survived by his parents and two sisters, Lillie and Lynda Lou; by both paternal and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Larsen of Grant's Pass, ore., and Mr. and Mrs. P.O. Person of lusk.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, May 19, in the Harrison Methodist Church with the pastor , Rev. J.M. Etheridge, officiating. The pallbearers were members of the future Farmers of America to which Leonard belonged. They were Paul Ellicott, Gary Howard, Pat Dunn, Darrell Anderson, Ronald Grote, and Pat Broderick. Interment was in the Harrison cemetery.
