Lundy Benshoof

Lundy Benshoof passed away on Jan. 28 in Spokane, Wash. He was born Feb. 23, 1900 to Perry and Rozella Benshoof in Wayne, Neb. His family moved to Wyoming when he was young and he attended college at Jireh. He eventually owned a ranch in the Prairie Center area.

He married Pearl Wilson in 1925. The family moved to Otis Orchards, Wash., in 1945. Mr. Benshoof worked for the Naval Supply for a short time and later worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad for eight years. He worked as a janitor at the Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood plant from 1954 until his retirement in 1970.

He helped start the first mail routes in Otis Orchards and was a member of the Spokane Valley Baptist Church. At the age of 99, he was the oldest-ever Kiwanis inductee when he joined the Spokane Valley Golden K Club, because "I had to think about my future."

Following his wife's death in 1983, he moved into Holman Gardens Retirement Home where he led an active life and enjoyed the many activities until he suffered a stroke three weeks before his death.

Survivors include two sons, Cavil Benshoof of Spokane, Lyman Benshoof of North Pole, Alaska, a daughter, Leona Albertson of Spokane, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews which include Verne Browder and Merle Hahn of Lusk.
