Funeral for Mrs. Shoopman Held in Cairo
Funeral service for Mrs. Delmar (Jessie) Shoopman, 79, of Cairo, Neb., were held at 1:30 p.m. December 18 at the Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo with the Rev. Bruce Matthews of the Cairo United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Cairo Cemetery.
Mrs. Judy Sheeks sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "In the Garden," accompanied by Miss Catherine Schultz on the organ.
Honorary pallbearers were Everett Brooks, Andrew McMaster, Levern James, Ray DeGering, Jess Orndoff, Richard Fernau, T. L. Cantwell, Edward Foley; Active pallbears were Franklin Myers, Maurice Wickersham, Elmer Bellamy, John Randolph, William Davis and Willis Reed.
Mrs. Shoopman was born April 11, 1892, to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Myers at Lemont, Ill. She died December 15 at a Grand Island hospital.
As a child, she had come to Platte County with her family, later moving to Hall County where the family farmed northeast of Wood River.
She attended Dist. 16 rural school, and the Cairo High School, and graduated from Grand Island High School.
On July 29, 1911, she and Delmar Shoopman were married at Grand Island. They farmed near Cairo and Angora, and then came to Lusk, where he served as county clerk and sheriff. After his retirement they returned to Cairo to reside in 1961.
She was a member of the Lusk Eastern Star and the Cairo United Methodist Church. She taught in Hall County rural districts for several years.
She is survived by her husband; one sister, Mrs. Emma Vierk of Cairo, and three granddaughters, Mrs. Harold Boyer (Dorothy), Casper, Mrs. Paul (Dixie) Moss, Lincoln, Neb; and Mrs. Richard (Connie) Fernau, Lovell and several great-grandchildren.
