Albert M. Smith Dies in Lusk Thursday Night
Albert M. Smith died at his home in Lusk last Thursday at 10:05 p.m. of a heart attack. He had arrived home earlier the same day from the Veterans Hospital in Hot Springs to spend the holidays with his family. Funeral services were held from the Peet Chapel Monday afternoon.
Rev. Edward D. Poser, pastor of the Manville Community Church, officiated at the services. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery.
Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. A.F. DeCastro sang "Silver Theads Among the Gold" and "God Be With You". Mrs. J.P. Watson was organist. Casket bearers were George Siebken, Chester Flick, Robert Black, James McCune, Leonard Seaman and Andy Owens.
Military graveside rites were conducted by members of Wieten-Dupes Post No. 4 of the American legion with Warren Schroefel and Steve Ellicott in charge.
Marcus Albert Moses Smith was born March 13, 1887 in Harrison County, Iowa and grew up there. He was a member of the American Expeditionary Force during World War I. He came to Wyoming after receiving his discharge and homesteaded on the Cheyenne River near the Minus Smith homestead. Albert and Minus were brothers.
In October, 1920 Albert married Rosa Mae Rush. The couple had two children, John and Josephine. Mrs. Smith died in September 1923.
Mr. Smith and Violet Mae Hurt were married February 27, 1927. They were the parents of eight children.
Mr. Smith was a past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of Wieten-Dupes Post No. 4 of the American Legion and a member of the Lusk Rod and Gun Club.
Besides his wife he is survived by six sons, Delbert and Douglas, Lusk, John, Stockton, Calif.; Charles, Lingle; James, Newcastle; Frank, a marine stationed in Virginia; three daughters, Mrs. Josephine Groom, Milton-Freewater, Ore.; Mrs. Clarabelle Blaney and Mary Smith, Lusk. One son George was killed in a car accident December 14, 1955.
