Jennie Bourret, Pioneer Resident, Dies at Age 88

Mrs. Jennie Kathryn Bourret, long time resident of Sioux County, died early Saturday morning at the Kimball Hospital at the age of 88.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Catholic Church of the Nativity at Harrison with Father Robert O'Neill officiating. Interment was in the Harrison Cemetery.

Mrs. Bourret was born December 20, 1878, at Iowa Center, Ia. She moved with her parents to Sioux County in a covered wagon in 1891 and attended the first school in Harrison. She was married to James F. Bourret on November 3, 1896, at Ardmore, S. Dak.

She and her husband homesteaded on the Niobrara River near Harrison. In 1904 they moved to town in Harrison and then in 1907 to Ardmore, and back to Harrison in 1909. In 1935 they moved to Powell, Wyo., for a short time before going to Kimball, Nebr. In 1944 they moved to Sidney, Nebr., where Mr. Bourret died October 27, 1946. She has lived since between Sidney and Kimball with her daughters.

Surviving are two sons, Francis of Chadron and James L. of Kimball; two daughters, Mrs. Grace Powell of Kimball, and Mrs. Ina Marie Copley of Sidney; one brother, Jay K. Lacy of Kimball; 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Five brothers and one sister died previously.

Boley-Dennis Mortuary of Kimball had charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established to the Kimball County Hospital.
