Francis Enoche Hruza

Francis Enoche Hruza was born at Cheyenne on May 7, 1915 and passed away on Oct. 14 at Memorial Hospital, Cheyenne. He was the first child of Frank and Isabelle Peiron Hruza.

Francis grew to manhood on the homestead near Potter, Nebr. and attended schools there. In 1934 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving until 1945. He achieved the temporary rank of Lt. Commander and permanent rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He was stationed aboard the USS Pennsylvania, flagship, at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

Following discharge from the navy, he farmed in northeastern Colorado near Peetz, until 1966. He served briefly in the Peace Corps and as a Youth Counselor at a Job Corp Camp, until moving to Riverton in 1969. After working briefly for Union Carbide, he purchased Cottonwood Court, which he was operating at the time of his death. He was a Life member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, the VFW and the American Legion.

Francis Hruza married Harriet MacAdams in 1940, and she preceded him in death in 1956. In 1969 he married Ione Lewis of Lusk. He is also survived by two daughters, Eloise Thomas of Los Angeles, and Janis Mitchell of Ancourage, four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one brother Rodney Hruza of Lander, three nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Fred and Merle and one sister Phyllis.

Military services were at the Porter, Nebr. Cemetery at 1:30 on Wednesday Oct. 17th.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Stephens Mission, St. Stephens, Wyo. 82524, or a charity of donors' choice.
