DEATH FOLLOWS THREE YEARS OF SUFFERING; FUNERAL HELD WEDNESDAY.
Had Been a Resident of This County since 1887; Leaves Husband and Two Daughters.
The list of remaining pioneers of this county was decreased again on Monday, September 13th, when Mrs. Lena B. Jones passed away at her home here after an illness which covered a period of more than three years. Death came at 4:45 p.m.
Mrs. Jones had been afflicted with heart disease for some time and had gone to several hospitals seeking relief. It had been but a few weeks since she returned from Omaha where she had been confined to a hospital for some time. Last Thursday she became worse and gradually weakened until death relieved her sufferings.
Lena B. Root was born at South Royalton, Vermont on April 22, 1878, and died at Lusk, Wyo., September 13, 1926, at the age of 48 years 4 months and 21 days.
In her youth she came westward with her parents and they finally settled in Wyoming, north of Lusk, in June, 1887. She was united in marriage to Mr. E. G. Jones in Lusk on October 29, 1902, and the family has resided here since.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, two daughters, Lola of this city and Mrs. Alice McNare of Node; her mother, Mrs. B. A. Root, one sister, Mrs. Cora Bell, both of Lusk; two brothers, Fred A. Root of Lusk, and Arthur H. Root of Columbine, Wyo.; also four nephews and three nieces.
She was a member of the Baptist church and the Order of Eastern Star and was at one time a Rebekah.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, September 15th, Rev. N. C. Coggin officiating. The members of the Lusk Eastern Star lodge attended the funeral in a body. The body was laid to rest in the Lusk cemetery.
The Herald-Standard joins in extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved.
