Charles Daugherty Dies After Fall from Horse Last Friday

Charles Edward Daugherty, for more than thirty-five years a resident of Niobrara county, and highly respected by all who knew him, passed away at the Lusk hospital at 1:30 a.m., Sunday morning, July 29th. He was 54 years and 6 days of age at the time of passing. Mr. Daugherty had contracted bronchial pneumonia, following a fall from his horse last Friday, from which he received what were believed to be only minor injuries.

He had been assisting the Sam Joss crew in trailing a bunch of cattle to Manville from the Joss ranch and it was upon the return trip to the ranch that his horse became frightened and threw him. Stunned, Mr. Daugherty was given aid by fellow ranch hands, and after a short time felt able to proceed to the Joss ranch. He became worse before reaching there, and was brought to this city and placed in the Lusk hospital.

Complications set in and death resulted after two days of illness.

funeral services were held from the Peet funeral home Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Stuart Anderson, Pastor of the Congregational church of this city, officiating. Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery. Mrs. J. P. Watson and Mrs. Edna Howard DeCastro offered two vocal numbers at the services, and were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. C. E. Marvin.

Mr. Daugherty came to this country in the early part of 1906 and for a number of years lived on a homestead north of Manville. Several years ago he suffered injuries in an accident, leaving him in a crippled condition.

He has no known relatives, it is understood.
