Services for long-time Goshen County resident Herman A. "Dick" Glandt, 91, were held at 3:00 p.m. , Friday, September 26th at Our Savior Lutheran church with Reverend Marvin Temme officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. Memorial gifts to the church or the Goshen County Senior Friendship Center would be appreciated by the family. Dick died at his home of September 23, 1997.
He was born December 18, 1905 at Meadow Grove, Nebraska, to Julius and Katherine (Werner) Glandt. In 1913 the family moved to Wyoming, homesteading southeast of Jay Em. He attended school in Madison County, Nebraska, and in Goshen County. As a young man he worked at various jobs including corn harvest in Eastern Nebraska, farm work in the Riverton area, and construction and hotel work in Casper.
He married Rosie Hecklebech on March 29, 1933 in Harrison, Nebraska. Over the years they farmed and ranched in Jay Em, Prairie Center and Burge communities. In 1982 they moved to Torrington after retiring from active farming and ranching. Dick enjoyed gardening and a few hobby crafts. For many years he actively trapped coyotes, an activity that he greatly missed the last few years. He enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and dancing.
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and also belonged to the Wyoming Stockgrowers and the Wyoming Farm Bureau. He served several years on the Jay Em Cemetery Board, and in the mid-1950's,was a member of the steering committee that studied and recommended making the southeast University Center) now Eastern Wyoming college) a county-wide institution.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Marilyn of Torrington and Dan and Ina of Cheyenne, Wyoming; four grandsons, Jeff of Rapid City, South Dakota, Tod of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Bruce of Richmond, Virginia, and Darryl of Laramie, Wyoming; three great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister.
Viewing hours at the Colyer Funeral Home were on Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. and at the service.
