Jess Christian "Chris" Eberspecher
Jess Christian "Chris" Eberspecher was born at Crawford, Neb., on Jan. 10, 1961, to Jerry and Joan (Norman) Eberspecher. He died in an automobile accident on March 14, 1991.
Chris grew up in Harrison and on a farm near Crawford.
He graduated from Crawford High School with the class of 1979, where he was active in wrestling. He went to Chadron State College one year, then transferred to the University of Wyoming where he was a graduate of the Class of 1984.
He worked his way through college doing carpentry in Lusk, Wyo., and as a salesman in New Hampshire and Maine. Following graduation he made his home in Sterling, Colo., continued his career as a self-employed fire extinguisher and Amway representative covering areas in Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming and Kansas. He loved people. His personality and easy gift of talking and laughing made him a natural for sales. He had many friends and never met a stranger or forgot a name.
He loved his family. He will be remembered by his friends and family for his special way of stopping in and visiting or calling just to talk a while.
He was a fine son, brother, cousin and uncle, and will be remembered and cherished by his family.
The following is a letter he wrote to his parents that gives them comfort and the courage to deal with their loss.
Hello Mom & Dad,
I wanted to drop a note in the mail and tell you hello. Things are going good here in Sterling, business is picking up and I'm looking forward to 1987. I realize I don't get home as much as I would like, but that's O.K. It seems my goals and desires are a lot different than they were 4-5 years ago, as are yours. The more I read and study what I have my hands on the more committed I get. It's exciting that way. I'm sure it sounds strange as a person looking in, however, the more I struggle the more I learn, so I'm going to keep struggling and keep trying. You might not be with me physically as much now as you have been in the past, but the memories are still there, and you'll always be the most special people I know. I have to give up things now so I can have more later, but you're always with me.
You don't need to worry about me because I'm basically a pretty good "son," and I was raised by pretty good parents, "the best." I have gotten out of line a few times, but it's your example that has gotten me back on the path. This letter is funny from Chris isn't it, Jerry? But that's O.K. Sometimes you can't express yourself over the phone. I'm just trying to be a better person today, than yesterday and so forth. "Life is a Journey." So until we meet again, God bless you and have a beautiful day.
He is survived by his parents, Jerry and Joan Eberspecher, grandmother, Leona Ostermeyer of Crawford; sisters, Vicky Yant and her husband, Matt, of Alliance; Ronda Norgard and her husband, Jim, of Fort Collins, Colo.; niece, Anna Marie Yant and nephews, Jeff, Mike and Casey Norgard, innumerable relatives and a host of friends.
Rosary services were held at church at 7:30 p.m. March 17. Funeral services at 10 a.m. on March 18, 1991 at St. John The Baptist Church at Crawford with Father Neal Nollette officiating with burial at Crawford Cemetery.
