Services for Lois Vera Eikenberry, 78, were held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Peet Mortuary Chapel, with Rev. Roy Howell of the Congregational Church officiating.
Mrs. Eikenberry, an area resident since 1935, died May 13 at the Niobrara County Nursing Home. She had been confined to nursing homes since suffering a stroke in April 1976.
Born April 8, 1907, in Virgil, S.D., she was the daughter of Lydia and William B. Taylor. She received her education in Brookings, S.D. and came to Wyoming in 1935 to teach at the Rawhide School after having taught several years in South Dakota. Later in her career, she taught in the Lusk grade school.
She married Howard H. Eikenberry on June 28, 1936. They purchased the family ranch from her husband's father shortly after their marriage and the Eikenberrys reared their four children on the ranch, 17 miles southwest of Lusk in the Rawhide Buttes area. She was a member of the Congregational Church in Lusk.
Survivors include her four children, Mrs. Bill (Helen) Oates and Robert, both of Lusk, Howard of Denver and William of Cheyenne; three brothers, Don and Cooley, both of Lusk and Martin of Seattle, Wash., one sister, Loretta Schipporiet of Hubbard, Ore.; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 30, 1983; three brothers, Benjamin, Robert and Sylvanus Taylor; and one sister, Olive McFarling.
Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery. Memorials to the Niobrara County Ambulance Fund or the Niobrara County Nursing Home in care of the Peet Mortuary would be equally appreciated.
