Robert M. Ellis, 63, of Spearfish, S. D., died Sunday, May 25, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.
Robert Merlin Ellis was born on May 26, 1939, in Warren, Ohio, to Paul and Jane (Risher) Ellis. He grew up in Warren and attended school there. He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School and attended the University of Wyoming. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in September 1958 and was discharged in July 1962. Following his discharge he lived and worked in California for a time and returned to Wyoming, where he was foreman and general manager of the Richard G. Pfister Ranches in Lusk. He returned to California and worked for Wellpoint Health Networks until his retirement in 1997. He moved to Spearfish following his retirement.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a member of the Black Hills Ramblers.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Kimberly of Spearfish; his children, Shawn Ellis of Centennial, Colo., Eric Ellis of Fort Collins, Colo., Greg Ellis of Spearfish, S. D., Curtis Magelky of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Jayme Magelky of Simi Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Audrey Pfister of Palm Desert, Calif., and Rae Lou Devine of Norfolk, Va.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D., under the direction of Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Spearfish, S.D.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Lookout Memorial Hospital Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
