Lowell Haines "Skip" Fitch

A service celebrating the life of "Skip" Fitch, 61, will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church with Rev. Mary Jellison officiating on Nov. 20, at 1 p.m.

At a later time his ashes will be spread on the hills near "Snake Haven" which is a spot on Hoy's Tea Kettle Ranch where he had resided since the early seventies.

Lowell passed away on Nov. 11, 2004 in Denver, Colo. He was born June 25, 1943 in Neptune, N.J. to Lowell Enoch Fitch and Elinore (Haines) Fitch. Lowell was an eleventh generation Fitch and his family was among the founders of Norwalk, Conn. in 1649.

After graduating from Barrington High School in R.I. he served in the United States Air Force and then graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1969. He served as editor and chief for the award winning 100th edition of the UMass yearbook. He married Janet Kurz on Feb. 24, 1968. He attended Colorado University and spent his summers working at Fort Laramie Historical Site as an interpreter. After receiving his law degree from CU in 1972 he and Janet moved to Torrington. He served as Goshen County Attorney from 1978 to 1990. They parted in marriage in 2000. For the past five years he was the assistant to Niobrara County Attorney Doyle J. Davies. He is survived by his daughter Amanda Gerri Fitch of Lakewood, Wash., son, Ethan Wright Fitch and Katherine Mary Fitch of Portland, Ore., three brothers, Alan of Marlboro, Vt., Stephen of Putney, Vt., James of Kingstown, R.I., and friends, Gerald F. Murray, Cora Heyl and Janet Kurz as well as his many associates. His parents preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Fort Laramie Historical Association where he served on the board for nearly 30 years or to the Goshen County Task Force on Family Violence where he was a board member for 11 years.
