Marjorie H. Francis
Services for Marjorie H. Frances, 67, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, 1989, in the Peet Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Roy Brown officiating. Burial followed in the Lusk Cemetery.
Mrs. Francis died Tuesday, June 20, 1989, at the family ranch following a long illness. She was born Dec. 2, 1921, at Phillip, S.D., the daughter of Walter and Alda Kellogg.
The family farmed in the Phillip area until 1934, when they moved to a homestead northeast of Edgemont, S.D. Mrs. Francis attended school there. She then worked in the U.S. Post Office until she married Gene Francis of Lusk on July 9, 1953.
They ranched in northern Niobrara County until Gene's death in 1985. She then stayed on at the family ranch with her son Doug until her death.
Marjorie was a member of the local Bible Study Group, a historian for the Roadrunners Homemaker Club and served as an election judge for the Darren District for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Survivors include a son, Doug Francis of the family ranch north of Lusk; a daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren, Candy, Ed, Kristy and Rebecca Pettyjohn of Douglas; two sisters, Virginia Strassburg of Elk River, Minn., and Beth McElroy of St. Louis; one brother, Donald W. Kellogg of Shawnee, KA; and numerous other relatives and friends.
For those who wish, memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
Peet Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
