Roy S. Emery Dies Suddenly

Funeral service for Roy S. Emery, 65, who died unexpectedly, last Thursday at his home was at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Harrison Methodist Church, with burial in the Forest Lawn Cemetery at Morrill.

Mr. Emery was born Nov. 16, 1909, at Mitchell. He graduated from the Sioux County High School at Harrison in 1927 and attended college at Chadron State College and the University of Wyoming and taught school several years.

He moved to California in 1941 where he worked in Civil Service for 25 years. Since retiring in 1969 he had lived part of the time at Harrison and part of the time at Grants Pass, Ore.

Survivors include his widow Verla; a daughter, Mrs. Bob Brackeen (Lila) Norco, Calif.; two sons, Quenten of Des Moines, Iowa, and Maurice of Grants Pass, Ore.; three brothers, John of Sasser, Ga., Ray of Tempe, Ariz., and Woodrow of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. William Pickens of Torrington, Wyo.; and Mrs. Margaret Bartell of Rapid City, S. D.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lou.

The Rev. Wayne Tieszen officiated at the funeral service. Masonic rites were conducted at the church by Richard Schmeckel of Chadron. He had been a member of a lodge at Grants Pass. Powell Funeral Home was in charge.

Pallbearers were Bill Grimm, Dick Herren, LaVerne Hanley, Alphonse Donohue, Duane Pullen and Ollie Seaman. Honorary bearers were Kenneth Taylor, Tom Broderick, Chas. N. Umphenour, Adolph Zurcher, Ord Anstey, Milford Brewster, Tress Powell, Everett Parmely, and John Broderick

Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund or to the Sioux County Rescue Unit.
