Emma Lena Heidemann Grote was born to August and Emma Dunse Heidemann on Aug. 13, 1898 at Tobias, Neb. She was baptized into the family of Jesus Christ three weeks later. She moved with her parents in 1904 to Wilcox, Neb. She was confirmed in her faith on March 28, 1912 in St. John's Lutheran Church at Wilcox by Rev. Herman Hopmann.
She married William Grote on Feb. 17, 1916, at Wilcox. They farmed there until December 1928 when they bought a ranch north of Harrison, Neb. They ranched there until they retired and moved into Harrison.
She treasured her family and friends and spent her many years helping and loving them. She was a God-fearing, caring, responsible and trustworthy friend. She liked to dance and play cards.
She was a longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and its Ladies' Aid and gave unselfishly of her time and talents. She led a faithful and active Christian life in 94 years, three months and three days, having died in faith Nov. 16, 1992, at the Ponderosa Villa.
Survivors include two sons; Melvin and Ronald and two daughters; Elaine Walker and Alda Engebretsen and a daughter-in-law, Ola Mae Grote, all of Harrison; 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Earl, one daughter, Alice Rabe, two infant sons, her parents, five brothers, five sisters and a granddaughter, Twila Grote.
