Gerald "Jerry" Walter

Gerald "Jerry" Walter was born in Lusk on Aug. 4, 1937, to Ray and Lucille Walter. Jerry passed away Dec. 26, 2005, following a brief illness at the Mobridge, S.D. hospital. He was raised on the family place near Node and attended grade school in Node. He graduated in 1955 from high school in Lusk. Jerry was active in 4-H and was recognized for his youth leadership and project activities.

On Aug. 3, 1957, Jerry was united in marriage to Peggy Slagle. To this union five children were born: Robert Walter, David Walter, Brian Walter, Barbara Walter Wood and Dixie Walter VanCamp.

Jerry was a highly skilled heavy equipment operator and mechanic. He retired from the Kerr McGee Company mining operations near Gillette. In addition to his responsibilities in the equipment maintenance division of the mine, Jerry was active in mine safety and rescue. For a few years following retirement, Jerry and Peggy enjoyed touring the country in their motor home prior to purchasing a home for retirement in Java, S.D.

His family and friends will forever remember Jerry as a generous and loving person who was devoted to his family. He was never too tired nor too busy to come to the aid of his family in times of need.

Jerry is survived by his wife Peggy, their five children, ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Also surviving is a brother, Jim and his wife Ida of Rapid City, S.D. His parents, Ray and Lucille Walter, preceded him in death.

Following a family service, Jerry's remains were cremated. Interment will be scheduled at a later date.
